As we welcome a new month, take a look at
what we will be focusing on in math.
In Second Grade, we will collect and display data about pockets on two different types of graphs. We will be introduced to comparison number stories and two-step number stories. We will share and record our own invented strategies for addition and learn a formal addition strategy.
In Third Grade, we will relate our part-whole understanding of fractions to visual and symbolic representations, including standard notation, and begin to explore fraction equivalence. We will develop multiplication fact strategies by working from our understanding of multiplication and known facts to find unfamiliar products by using arrays, area models and properties of multiplication.
In Fourth Grade, we explore the whole in fractions as well as adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. We use these computation skills to answer questions about line plots. We will be introduced to adding tenths and hundredths and we will build on our knowledge of rays to explore unit iteration for angles.
In Fifth Grade, we deepen our understanding of fractions and develop strategies for adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. We will connect fraction-of thinking to multiplication and generalize a fraction multiplication algorithm. We will also be introduced to fraction division.
Have a great month!
