SUBJECT NEWS

·         MATH: FABULOUS JOB ON THE UNIT 6 TEST!!! We are just beginning Unit 7, a unit which mostly involves learning how to multiply fractions and a whole number. We also continue to practice division. We are also preparing for the PARCC  test. According to Miss Amos, one of the math supervisors, if we have been following Fair Lawn's math curriculum, we will be prepared for the test!

·         SPELLING: New units each week (unless there are only 3 days of school that week). Packets are completed in class, homework should be varied and your child should try a different homework each night. CHECK FOR NEATNESS AND CORRECT SPELLING! ◦

·         READING: We have been reading some non-fiction articles and practicing how to respond to comprehension questions and answering a writing prompt. We also chose a book to read and share in "Book Club" format. The students are very excited to be involved with their book clubs and jumped right in! We are also preparing for the PARCC test. Your child is also reading for stamina and should be reading at least 20 minutes every day. If they are reading an average of 7 pages every 10 minutes, then they are reading a book at their appropriate independent reading level.◦

·         WRITING: See READING entry...Our Literary Essays have been    completed. We learned a lot about Climate Change and Global Warming and then responded in literary essay format. When the PARCC test is over, we will begin writing realistic fiction stories. This is when your child  gets to use their imagination and develop a character, setting and
situation.

·         WORD WORK/GRAMMAR: Latin root words are being written on index cards and added to a ring. Challenge your child to find them in their daily life.

·         SCIENCE: Science involves ENERGY AND MOTION. We are learning about different kinds of energy and how energy transfers from one object to another. There are some pretty cool experiments that we will conduct as well.
